The Friends of St. Thomas Public Libraries is urging the community to visit our online petition in favor of extended hours at the Charles W. Turnbull Regional Library, a safe pedestrian walk, and access to regular public transportation to the Library’s main entrance. The petition may be viewed online at Change.org. All U.S. Virgin Islands citizens should sign and share this petition! The petition text is below:
The Charles Wesley Turnbull Regional Library (CWTRL) is the only functioning public library on St. Thomas. This brand new facility is failing to serve the greater community of the Virgin Islands to its fullest potential due to factors that can be readily resolved.
We, the undersigned residents of the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) want the current hours of operation, Monday through Friday 9:00 am until 5:00 pm changed. We want the Charles Wesley Turnbull Regional Library opened on weekends, Saturdays from 10:00 until 6:00 pm and Sundays 12noon until 8 pm, and open at least one night per week until 8:00 pm.
Access to CWTRL on foot from the main entrance gate at the bottom of the hill to the front door of the CWTR Library is dangerous as there is no sidewalk and pedestrians must walk in the street. We, the undersigned residents of the USVI want sidewalks to be installed from the entrance gate at the bottom of the hill all the way up to the main entrance of the library.
The Charles Wesley Turnbull Library is not serviced by VITRAN Busses, again limiting access to the facility; therefore, we, the undersigned residents of the USVI want VITRAN Bus service to be provided to the front main entrance of the library on a regular and daily basis during library operating hours.
We invite you to view and sign the petition right away. Then, SHARE this petition today and as often as possible! Click here to go to the petition at Change.org. We appreciate everyone who takes the time to support our Public Library!
