Op Ed: Changes making Turnbull Library easier to use, but we still need weekend hours
Friends of St. Thomas Public Libraries Letter to the Editor:
On Wednesday, Nov. 18 2015 the Virgin Islands Daily News ran the op-ed piece submitted by FOSTPL President Judy King-Edmeade. The Letter to the Editor outlines the great strides being made at the Charles Wesley Turnbull Library, while also making it clear that the collective voice of residents will go a long way towards impressing policy makers on outstanding needs.
The Charles W. Turnbull Regional Library is nearly complete, and has been serving the public since the summer of 2013 while weathering a variety of renovations and upgrades, including landscaping, a roof replacement, and compliance measures. Still, the lack of funding to provide for adequate equipment, technological and maintenance support, librarians and library techs and security means that the facility’s hours (9am – 5pm, Mondays through Fridays) are not convenient to many. A petition has been instituted to signify the great demand for more focus and support to enable the staff and management of the library to better serve the community.
