Jan. 13, 2014 – The public is encouraged to attend the Friends of Elaine I. Sprauve Library’s annual meeting at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, January 23, at the library. The meeting will include a brief annual review of the Friend’s initiatives followed by presentations by two guest speakers, Gilbert A. Sprauve on “The Virgin Islands as a Caribbean Cultural Village” and Mark Sullivan on “The Digital Library of the Caribbean.” 신용카드현금화
Dr. Sprauve is a native of the U.S. Virgin Islands and a retired university professor of modern languages. He is co-director of the Summer Institute of Virgin Islands Culture and has traveled, studied, taught and lectured on four continents. He has published numerous articles on V.I. English Creole and the culture and language of his homeland; and has served as senator-at-large and vice president of the V.I. Legislature. He has also been a cultural consultant and presenter for the Government of the Virgin Islands and the Center for Folklife Studies at the Smithsonian. 신용카드현금화
Mr. Sullivan is the Digital Curation Director at the University of Florida and the software developer of SobekCM: Digital Content Management System. He is also the lead trainer for the Digital Library of the Caribbean project, a cooperative digitization providing free and open access to materials from and about the Caribbean. The Digital Library of the Caribbean includes 50+ partners and over two million pages of content. The Digital Library of the Caribbean unites heritage organizations, researchers, and educators to help archive and preserve materials which would otherwise be largely inaccessible.
